Lab 20 · LinkedIn Profile Lab: Professional Presence
🎯 Objective
Create a public professional presence a recruiter can verify in one minute — consistent with your resume and GitHub.
🧩 Skills You Will Practice
- Headline writing
- About storytelling
- Featured portfolio curation
- Professional posting
🧰 What You Need
- Your finished resume (Lab 19)
- A clear professional photo
- Links to GitHub and 2 best projects
- LinkedIn account (free)
📋 Step-by-Step Tasks
- Set the headline to a formula, not just Student: Field + Skills + Goal, for example CS Student | Web Development and Cybersecurity | Building projects in Python and JavaScript.
- Write the About section in 4–5 lines: your field and semester, your strongest skills, one concrete achievement (a lab or project with a result), and what you are looking for (internship, collaboration, mentorship).
- Add Education and your real skills, matching the resume wording and dates exactly — recruiters cross-check, inconsistencies cost trust.
- Use Featured to pin your 2 best projects: link the GitHub repo or project page with a one-line description of what it does and what you learned.
- Set a clear profile photo (face visible, plain background, no group crop) and a simple banner — no logos or text you do not own.
- Publish one introductory post: what you are learning, one project you finished, one thing it taught you, and what is next. Professional, specific, no copying anyone text.
- Connect deliberately: follow 10 relevant people or pages (lecturers, local tech communities, companies you admire) — quality over mass-adding strangers.
✅ Expected Result / Deliverable
A complete LinkedIn profile matching your resume, with headline, About, featured projects and one published learning post — ready to link from your resume and GitHub.
⚠️ Common Mistakes
- Headline that says only Student at university
- Skills and dates that differ from the resume
- Copying another person About text
Safety, Ethics & Pro Tip
Use only your own photo, projects and words. Never post a client, classmate or employer confidential information, and keep personal phone numbers and home address off your public profile.
